Hook'em horns!

Alright folks, I have some exciting news to share. Well, at least exciting to me. I have now been to a Texas/OU game. I feel as if much of my football watching career has led up to this momentous occasion. And when my mother told me on Saturday, August 22 that I would be going this year, I began preparing mentally for what was to ensue. I must say...I was not dissappointed. It all started Friday night, after a long LONG day driving, we arrived at our family friends' house in Arlington around 10pm. The party had already started (and been going on) complete with 20 or so Texas fans all decked out in their best Texas gear, getting amped for the following day's game. Such fun was to be had. I have posted a few pictures of the crowds, the game, and I apologize in advance for no pictures of people. I managed to forget to take those. Too stressful of a game. I mean, never lacked for excitement, but can we say whoa, Texas...what happened to your offense? I don't really want to talk football. Just wanted to say I had a great time with my family and friends, and I know my mother was looking down and helping out the horns just a little bit. To her, I say thanks.

Go horns!

Yay! We won!
(insert huge sigh here)

Aw, poor sooners decided to leave. But cool divide, huh?

And who could miss the Texas toga?
(He had a belt buckle too, but I couldn't get a shot of the front.
Just wasn't quick enough.)

well well well

I have the most boring blog ever. I don't really care all that much, but I do feel the need to acknowledge that fact. I'm not stupid...just not all that into keeping this up. However, it may be good to update it every now again to record for all time (or at least the forseeable future) what happens in my life.

So, I have had mono for a while now. I had to miss 3 days of school...in addition to the other 2 days of school I missed a couple of weeks ago because of a bad cold. What increases your chances of contracting this blessed "kissing" disease? 1) stress [haven't had any of that lately] 2) overwork or fatigue [I'm sure starting this year the way I did in a new grade hasn't caused me to work extra hard or worry or miss any sleep] 3) weakened immune system [previously mentioned bad cold] SO, that's what's been going on as of lately for me.

Just to prove having mono truly does suck...

Anyway, I guess that's all. I hope you are staying healthy and well.

School is getting closer...

I have been in my classroom a total of 3 days so far, and you can't even tell! SO frustrating! But, on the upside, I got some good encouragement from a fellow teacher today. That was all I needed to keep going. Feeling like I CAN do it...if I just don't give up :)
And only 2 more days, and then I'm headed to Vegas for my last summer "hoorah!". I think this traveling thing is going to have to slow down now that school is starting...but we'll just have to wait and see.

Inspired by Mary, I decided to do the Always, Sometimes, Never post. Enjoy!

I always...
-love to eat crossiants with my morning coffee
-enjoy nutella and banana crepes
-get overzealous when taping TV shows in the fall
-put on one sock and then one shoe before going to the other foot
-watch TV right before bed (bad, I know)
-travel when I can
-like to give away home-made baked goods

I sometimes...
-make dinner
-get nervous to meet new people
-play the piano
-buy clothes without trying them on
-get bored but continue to do nothing just because I can

I never...
-like to be embarrassed
-go a day without a shower
-eat anything with beans in it
-feel confident about my athletic ability
-stop wishing for more time with people I love
-forget what a gift chick-fil-a is :)
-want to take my friends and family for granted

Man, oh man

I think it is clear that my blog updating sucks, but you know what? You're just going to have to learn to love me despite this flaw. Or just don't ever read my blog. Either one is fine with me.

So recently, I went to CA for a month. The following is a collection of the good times had.

Oh, but first, my adorable niece.

Isn't this the largest pelican you've ever seen??

Temecula for wine tasting.

My two wine tasting partners in crime.

Our beautiful lunch spread.

The view from Pepperdine...still can't believe I went there.

A day at the beach

Just crossing over to San Francisco

The scary bridge we had to cross

Alcatraz

View of the city

Cool San Francisco mural

Lots of laundry hanging outside

This is for Chelsea...it's your place!

My beauty salon.

On the way to Fisherman's Wharf

About to board the ferry to Alcatraz

A view of a typical cell...don't think I want to go to prison anytime soon.

A view of the city

Sunset and the Golden Gate Bridge

An interesting way to make a buck on the streets of San Francisco

Grand Canyon-North Rim

That poor, one cloud...seems so lonely.

On the drive home

Beautiful!

And that's all! Hope you've enjoyed the tour. Summer is finally nearing its end but not before a few last fun points including Vegas next week. Not sure what I'll be able to post from that, but I'll try.

On the road again...

Well, not so much anymore. Following a CRAZY long day filled with great gas mileage and a flat tire, I made it to CA! Yea! The weather has been unreal. I guess I had forgotten how lovely it can be in July. I hardly ever get chilly at night, but the days barely get in the high 80s. Amazing. So far I have celebrated the fourth of July, for which I am still recovering (sunburned pretty good). Tonight I hope to see the Angels play the Texans, and I am helping a friend move on Wednesday. So, all in all, I'm here, safe, and enjoying the time.
More to come.

Summertime is here

My summer has gotten off to a fairly good start. There hasn't been much time in the sun, but I'm hoping to make up for that very soon. I've had lots of rest to recover from these last few months...something I'm VERY thankful for. And I've had time to bake again. Really, I LOVE baking. Cakes, cookies, scones, weird recipes I find on the internet. If it's got 4 or more stars, I'm willing to give it a try. But my real passion lies with cakes. I don't know what it is, but when someone asks me to bake one, I get really excited that I have someone to give it to. I mean, I like to taste and try like the rest of them, but I was somehow born with somewhat less of a sweet tooth. I am more of a "real" food kind of girl. (i.e. Chick-fil-a chicken nuggets, potatoes of ANY kind, cucumbers, Taco Cabana personal sized chicken quesadilla) So often I don't bake as much because I don't want to have to eat it or make my parents eat it. Last night I went with my mom to a family friend's house, and I got to bring my latest cake there. People seemed to enjoy it. Maybe I should use baking as a kind of ministry or something. Because I'm telling you...it's a lovely way to pass the time. And seriously, I can't eat all that I want to bake. (and I'm not certain I have enough business savvy to open a bakery)
So, whoa, I guess there's my random thought for the day. Enjoy.

Party in Downtown San Antone

What do four/five old friends, The Westin Riverwalk, pedicures, shopping, food and yummy martinis all have in common? Chi Chi Weekend 2009! So fun to see the girls and spend 24 hours of serious quality time. I needed a weekend like this so it was a perfect beginning to summer.

After pedicures...gotta love the cha cha ching cherry.

Pre swimming in the overcrowded pool. (Some of us even laid on the concrete on our towels to get some much needed sun.)

Awwww...we know.

I told you I NEEDED this weekend to help celebrate my first full-time job coming to a close...so celebrate I did. Wahoo!
